History of Crossroads Connection

communionAfter reading about a Brooklyn, N. Y. church made up of former inmates, the Reverend Roy Fox had a vision for a similar ministry in Omaha.  Planning for such a ministry began with a group of interested persons gathering to brainstorm at First Presbyterian Church of Omaha in 2001.

As a result of this planning session, a ministry began “inside the walls” of the Omaha Correctional Center.

In 2002, Miller Park Presbyterian Church allowed a portion of their building to be used for worship and classes for inmates and their families.  The ministry that began in the Omaha Correctional Center moved to working with inmates at the Community Corrections Center-Omaha.  With the time, energy, imagination and love of many committed volunteers, a ministry evolved that included weekly worship and a fellowship meal.

In June, 2005, Crossroads moved its worship and fellowship to Underwood Hills Presbyterian Church.  Three years ago, Crossroads Connection’s weekly attendance averaged 15 to 20 people.  Currently, attendance consistently averages 70 people each week.  On a typical Sunday evening, approximately 35 inmates are brought to worship from the center.
